If you leave me, can I come to – 13 July 2008

Not that anyone is actually leaving me as against leaving to go to Sturgis, as I was reminded on a club ride yesterday.

On The Road Again

On The Road Again

A dozen members of the Gold Coast HOG Chapter leave on 21 July, for their annual “pilgrimage” to Sturgis.

They fly into Las Vegas, where they pick up their rental bikes and ride up Sturgis, where they stay until the beginning of August (remembering that Sturgis runs for 3 weeks in total), before returning to Las Vegas and then home.

These guys can tell you how many “sleeps” it is before they leave.

TJ and his wife Rita (they are renewing their wedding vows in Vegas) will be touring around the US for a couple of weeks before attending the HOG and Harley Anniversary celebrations in Milwaukee at the end of August.

Although I will miss seeing these guys in Sturgis (we are there 6th, 7th and 8th August), I expect to catch up with TJ and Rita in Milwaukee.

A few on our tour are starting the tour in San Francisco on 22 July, so they will also be departing around 21 July.

From Frisco, they will ride through California, across to Vegas, through the Grand Canyon and onto Denver, where we will meet up with them.

Preparations being finalised, double checking riding gear and equipment, banter about the trip, yes the tension is building and some of us will get to go to.

Jay Krause’s Harley Adventures – 11 July 2008

I have created this blog to document my upcoming Harley riding adventure around the good old US of A in August this year.

The blog will also enable me to document future riding adventures, like the Australian National HOG Rally at Lennox Head in October this year, the Victorian HOG Rally at Shepparton in March 2009 and the Queensland State Rally at Rockhampton in April 2009.

I am undertaking the USA trip as part of an overall tour through “West Forever” tour group, who have packaged what I consider is an excellent tour.

Details about West Forever can be found on the following link

www.westforever.com.au

Essentially we are in the State’s for two reasons, the first is to attend the Sturgis Rally in South Dakota at the beginning of August, the largest motorcycle rally in the world with around 500,000 bikes attending last year.

The second reason is to attend the 25th Anniversary of HOG and the 105th Anniversary of Harley Davidson celebrations at the end of August.

In between we will be travelling down to Memphis and New Orleans, then up through Tennessee, Washington and New York, past Niagra Falls and onto Chicago and then Milwaukee, the home of Harley.

I intend to post on this trip on a daily basis, commenting on the ride, the various places we visit and or stay at and include stories and pictures of my travelling companions.

As I do not depart from Brisbane (Australia) until 2 August, I do not anticipate to many postings until then, however, who knows, I may in the meantime post on rides or events or even the count down to my departure.
